1. Dark Matter and Dark Energy
Researchers think that about 95 percent of our universe is composed of dark matter and dark energy. However, amazingly, we are not able to see or feel either of these. In fact, we only know about their existence because of the impact they have on the universe. Today, we still do not understand what these two components actually are, which makes it a mystery to science.
2. Human Consciousness
Despite all this many decades of research going on in this field of science, a complete explanation regarding the workings of consciousness is yet to be developed. This is because it has been realized that the brain is associated with thinking and awareness. However, how the electrical impulses translate to thoughts and awareness has not yet been understood.
3. Placebo Effect Placebo Effect:
The placebo effect happens when a patient feels relieved by taking fake medication simply because they believe that it can help. But what’s even more astonishing is that the body can actually respond with improvements, like pain relief or healing faster. Scientists realize that the placebo effect occurs, but they’re not sure how a patient’s beliefs can actually help the body.
4. Ball Lightning
Ball lightning occurs during a thunderstorm and has been described as spheres of light that are observable and emit their own brightness. Ball lightning has been researched and theories developed as to how this phenomenon occurs. However, none of the theories are fully capable of explaining this event of nature.
5. Déjà Vu
Déjà vu is a phenomenon whereby an individual feels as though he or she has already lived through a situation or experience. This often happens when one feels that he or she has already had the experience despite the fact that he or she is clear that it is not the case. Déjà vu affects nearly everyone in life. There are theories but no complete explanation.
6. The wow signal
In the year 1977, a bright signal was detected in space that lasted for 72 seconds. This signal is known as the “Wow! Signal,” as someone wrote “Wow!” in the margins of the data after observing the signal. The signal was so peculiar that it provoked speculations about extraterrestrial life.
7. Sleep
There are people who can walk, talk, eat, and even drive while asleep. Still, sleepwalking baffles scientists. Though sleepwalking is associated with brain activity during sleep, the reasons people sleepwalk and others do not are not yet clear.
8. Spontaneous Human Comb
There has also been a recorded instance of people seemingly to be catching fire without an external source present. In such instances, sometimes the body will be on fire, and the surrounding objects will be left largely unscathed. Some of the theories behind such incidents include the “wick effect.”
9. Animal Navigation
Many creatures are capable of traversing thousands of miles and then returning to the same spot where their journey began. Such creatures include birds, turtles, and whales. Scientists think that animals are capable of using the magnetic field of the earth. However, the science behind this phenomenon has not yet been clearly explained.
10. Why We Dream
Although everyone dreams, scientists have not yet clarified the purpose of dreaming. Some theories state that dreams aid in memory function or support the processing of emotions in the brain. On the contrary, some theories support the view that dreams do not serve much purpose. Despite the availability of advanced brain imaging techniques, the actual purpose of dreaming still isn’t known.
